Residentials
What a wonderful week we have all had, the only day we had rain was our day out at Chessington the rest of the time we have had wonderful weather. We've experienced new activities and challenges with so many of the children going beyond their safety zone and succeeding in what they felt they would never be able to do. Many thanks to the group who have been wonderful and without them we may never of been able to get so much done, helping out when asked and looking out for each other have been the main contributions of the week. Thanks also need to go to Gillian and Nicky who helped prepare and joined me on the residential to make it so much fun. Our next residential to Carroty Wood will be during the Summer Holiday Club 2012, places are filling fast so please let me know if you would like to join us. Derek Thursday 27th October This morning we all got up at 9.30am and had a late full English brunch breakfast. While the breakfast was being cooked we all helped to do jobs around the building, that included tidying our bedrooms, hoovering, sweeping and empting the bins around the building. After breakfast we also helped to do the washing up. Today we have free time till 3pm when we are going to use the adventure area, we've been told that there is lots of mud that we can roll in so were not having showers till later. This evening we're going on a night hike with the instructors. Tomorrow we're going to be busy so we won't have time to do an update but we shall be back at the club by 3pm when we shall be joining everyone for a Disco!!! Wednesday 26th October Early start today for our day at Chessington World of Adventures. After breakfast we made our packed lunches for tea and at 8.30am all started to get onto the mini-bus. Derek set the Tom Tom and told us that there had been an accident which had closed the M25 and it could take about 2hrs to get to Chessington. After a long slow journey we eventually arrived at 11am, where we made our way immediately to meet Natalie and all the others from holiday club at Burger King. We had a great day, although we got wet, the sun came out and dried us very quickly. Chessington was very busy but by 6pm a lot of people had gone home and there were hardly any queues for the rides. During the evening we watched the headless horseman show and some of the group decided to take part in the trick or treat competition. At 8pm the park closed and we sat in the mini-bus and ate our packed lunches with other goodies that had been packed. We arrived back at Carroty Wood at 9.45pm and had Hot Chocolate and watched a DVD. Tomorrow we don't need to be up early as we have free time till the afternoon. Tuesday 25th October Following our late night (all asleep by 1am) we woke at 8am for a breakfast of pancakes. Following breakfast we had our first activity which was 'Water Roller', a large cylinder shape in the water that in two’s we rolled across the water, Great Fun!!! During the session we also got another opportunity to have a swim. We then had an hour break for lunch which was Tomato Soup and Hot Dogs. After lunch we had our second activity which was 'The Maze'. In groups of 4's we were challenged to find 8 pieces of a jigsaw which carried a Christian meaning, the Blue team completed their puzzle first. As I write this we have a group playing football with Nicky and the rest of the group having showers. This evening some of the group have chosen to go on another walk while the rest wish to stay to watch a DVD. Tomorrow we're off to Chessington so were try to catch up on Thursday!!! Monday 24th October Following our early start we arrived at Carroty Wood with about 30mins to spare which give us some time to take some group photos. Our first activity was a session on the 9 metre climbing wall, everyone was asked how they felt they would do and then given the chance to try out the wall. Everyone managed to climb to 6 metres with a few of the brave among us managing to reach the top. Once everyone had a climb the group were then divided into two's for a game of Gladiator in which the Gladiator had to take a scarf away from the Contender. Following the game it was time to brave our fears abseiling. The first wall was to test how we felt which followed for the bravest of brave a chance to abseil from the top of the 9 metre wall. Everyone had a go at the abseiling or though some of us decided once at the top to walk down rather than abseil. After lunch we were able to see Chestnut Loft where we shall be staying for the week. Everyone were shown their rooms and promptly made they beds with the help of the leaders before Jeanette arrived with all the bags and luggage. Following a massive team effort the van was unloaded and unpacking commenced. Following a welcome talk by Edge who spoke to us about the safety of the centre we then had some spare time before swimming. This evening we shall be having Spaghetti Bolognaise for dinner and Chocolate Fudge Cake for pudding and then we shall be going for a night walk before we have some quiet time watching DVD's before bed. Catch up on our evening tomorrow!!! |
